Finding The Thread
For when there’s something on your mind, but you can’t quite figure out what to do with it.
Maybe something in your life has changed. Maybe you’re standing at a crossroads. Maybe you keep circling the same question, thought, or feeling and getting nowhere new with it.
Finding the Thread is a free, gentle writing practice designed to help you slow down, get curious about what’s actually asking for your attention, and follow it toward a little more clarity.
There’s nothing to complete, fix, or figure out perfectly. Just a place to start when things feel tangled.
You don’t have to untangle the whole thing at once.
When something is taking up a lot of space in your head, it’s easy to start pulling at every thread at the same time. What happened? Why do I feel this way? What does it mean? What am I supposed to do about it? What if I make the wrong choice?
Finding the Thread starts smaller.
Instead of asking you to solve the whole thing, the practice helps you notice one thought, feeling, question, memory, or tension that seems to be asking for your attention and stay with it for a while.
From there, you’ll move through four simple stages:
ARRIVE → FOLLOW THE THREAD → UNTANGLE → CARRY SOMETHING FORWARD
You might recognize a pattern you hadn’t noticed before. Put language around something that’s been difficult to name. Understand why something has been bothering you. Hear what one part of you has been trying to say. Or simply leave with one honest next step.
The goal isn’t to figure yourself out. It’s to understand yourself a little better.
